Rumor has it that VAN HALEN will appear at the November 30 Grammy Nominations Concert at Los Angeles’ Nokia Theater to announce that they will perform at the actual Grammy Awards in February. The buzz around town is that they will also use this opportunity to announce details of their pending album and tour.
Former VAN HALEN members Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony are now in CHICKENFOOT, along with guitarist Joe Satriani and touring drummer Kenny Aronoff.
VH1 Radio Network‘s Dave Basner asked Michael if he was interested in hearing VAN HALEN‘s announcement, and Kenny chimed in with some intriguing news.
“At this point, I mean, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t interested,” Michael said. “I’m interested to hear what their new album will sound like when it comes out.” Aronoff added: “I was in the studio when they were recording, I mean… I know my buddy who started producing it, John Shanks, and then I know the guy who was mixing it, Ross Hogarth, and I was hearing all kinds of stories.”
Kenny went on to reveal that working for VAN HALEN can be tough and that the band still isn’t as reunited as they could be.
“They played one song for me and it was good, but the thing I was hearing was stuff like, you know, it’s the whole… I just heard the classic stories, my buddy finally was told to leave, the producer, and he heard about how people would get fired and he was like, ‘It happened to me, too!'” Kenny said. “And then the engineer would deliver the mixes. There was the David Lee Roth camp and there was the brothers’ camp.”
During an announcement regarding the hour-long nominations concert, the Recording Academy said the show would feature “a special live announcement from a truly iconic group regarding their historic band reunion set to take place.” The organization later dropped either an extremely blatant hint or the greatest red herring in the history of rock music with the following tweet: “Who do u predict the reuniting band will be @ The Grammy Noms… Does this hint make u wanna ‘Jump’ and ‘Dance the Night Away?'”
Meanwhile, MelodicRock.com is reporting a few additional rumors: that VAN HALEN filmed a video for the forthcoming album’s first single a few weeks ago in L.A., and that the album could include a cover tune, with David Lee Roth demoing several in New York City to send to the band back in L.A. to select from.
