Montreal, Quebec, Canada-based thrash/death metallers THE CATALYST have parted ways with vocalist Matt Bailie due to “musical differences” and have replaced him with Matt McGachy (CRYPTOPSY, 3 MILE SCREAM, THE ERA OF).
McGachy previously filled in for Bailie during THE CATALYST‘s summer 2011 touring cycle after medical problems forced Bailie to sit out the dates. McGachy is also a founding member of Montreal metal outfit 3 MILE SCREAM alongside THE CATALYST bassist Mike Marino.
Commenting on the transition, THE CATALYST guitarist Graham “G” McDonagh said: “We had reached somewhat of a crossroads, and it had become obvious to everyone in the band the there were two distinct directions forming. The separation with Matt Bailie was amicable and we will remain dear friends, but was necessary for the continuation and growth of the band. Having known and played with Matt McGachy previously and being very familiar with his vocal style and skill, it was clear to us that we are on the same wave length with him and that he is the perfect fit for THE CATALYST both musically, personally and professionally at this crucial point in the band’s history. We are extremely excited to continue writing brand new material, performing live and taking the next steps with Matt McGachy onboard!”
McGachy joins THE CATALYST during the writing process of the band’s follow-up to their 2011 debut, independently released album, “Origins”, and one week after the release of their debut video for “When The Sun Shall Rise” (see clip below).
THE CATALYST will shortly be announcing a string of tour dates for the summer to debut some new material and the new lineup.
THE CATALYST‘s next gig with McGachy on vocals will take place on Friday, May 25 at Coop les Katacombes in Montreal as direct support to THE EMPIRE SHALL FALL.
Look for THE CATALYST‘s sophomore release to drop in early 2013.
