According to the Corpus Christi Caller Times, young pastor Jason Houlihan and his friend David Pallotti introduced a metalcore worship format at St John’s United Methodist Church in Corpus Christi, Texas to offer a different perspective of the church scene where everyone can feel welcome.
Thy Kingdom Come is the name of the service and also the band that performs Christian metalcore — a mixture of heavy metal music with Christian lyrics — at St. John’s United Methodist Church every Sunday.
Palotti, 21, said, “We go to a lot of Christian metal shows and we saw all those people who didn’t go to church because they were judges. That’s not what church is supposed to be.”
Since it launched three years ago, the metal service has attracted a conjuration aged between 16 and 26. Houlihan said, “It’s been a way to connect with people who wouldn’t otherwise come to church.” Afterwards he invites anyone with any concerns about their lives to wait behind and chat. “We’ll just hash it out. We might not always agree, but we respect each other,” he said.
