Former EMPEROR frontman Ihsahn kicked off his Japanese co-headlining tour with THE HAUNTED yesterday (Monday, December 5) at Shibuya O-East in Tokyo.
Ihsahn was supposed to tour Japan in May with MORBID ANGEL and THE HAUNTED, but this tour was cancelled due to the disastrous earthquakes and floods Japan experienced in February, leading to the Fukushima nuclear powerplant meltdown.
Comments Ihsahn: “With the extreme unfortunate circumstances Japan has been exposed to this year, I am honored to get this second chance to go there and perform for my Japanese fans. Last night’s show was a blast, and I’m looking forward to Nagoya and Osaka. See you all there!”
Ihsahn‘s backing band, progressive metallers LEPROUS, is opening the shows with a separate set.

Ihsahn‘s latest album, “After”, was released on January 26, 2010 via Candlelight Records. The CD landed at position No. 31 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.
Recorded during the first half of 2009, “After” completes the musician’s planned trilogy of initial recordings. The CD showcases the Norwegian icon with drummer Asgeir Mickelson (SPIRAL ARCHITECT), bassist Lars K. Norberg (SPIRAL ARCHITECT), and saxophonist Jorgen Munkeby (SHINING).
“This is my first album written with eight-string guitars as basis which has been both challenging and inspiring,” Ihsahn stated about the creative process. “I also decided early on that I wanted to mix this album with Jens Bogren (OPETH, KATATONIA) and recorded the album with that in mind. Asgeir and Lars have again delivered superb performances. I’ve always wanted to implement the saxophone in my music; Jorgen‘s contributions truly added a silver lining to the album.”
Recorded at Ihsahn‘s own Symphonique Studio, with additional work at Toproom Studio (co-engineered by Borge Finstad), “After” was meticulously laid out over an eight-month period.
