In this week’s issue of U.K.’s Kerrang! magazine, JUDAS PRIEST frontman Rob Halford offered his take on why the British rock and metal scene is so special.
“Where do you start?” says Halford. “There’s no doubt that all of the great British rock bands and metal bands that have been around since the whole movement began have been incredibly important in the bigger scene of rock and roll around the world I think it’s just something that all of us as British musicians are proud of, because you’ve only got to look at what’s happening right now on the world scene and there’s a tremendous amount of U.K. musicians that are at the forefront of the stages all over the planet.
“I’ve said a bazillion times that we fly the flag for British heavy metal. We played just about every single place there is to play in the UK. You name it, we played it — every pub, every club, every workingmen’s club, whatever it might be.
“I think it’s great that there’s this tremendous variety of choice right now, which is brilliant. I really like YOU ME AT SIX, and you probably know I’m a big fan of BRING ME THE HORIZON. It’s exciting to see HORIZON blazing a new trail, because they’re out there doing it on their own merits and because of their ability. It’s great because they’re thinking outside the box, and I see a little bit of PRIEST in those guys.
“I get Kerrang! every week and I see all of these bands and I’m like, ‘Oh my God, I’ve never heard of this band and I’ve never heard of that band, and it’s brilliant, brilliant, brilliant.”
