MEGADETH Joined By RECYCLED ORCHESTRA For Trash Metal Rendition Of ‘Symphony’

Fan-filmed video footage of MEGADETH performing its classic song “Symphony Of Destruction” with Paraguay’s Recycled Orchestra last night (Friday, August 2) in Broomfield, Colorado can be seen below.

The brainchild of Favio Chávez, a landfill worker and musician from Cateura — regarded as one of the poorest slums in Latin America where impoverished families make their living recycling and selling other people’s garbage — the Recycled Orchestra features Chávez and an inspiring group of children who play instruments made completely from the trash in the landfill.

“One day it occurred to me to teach music to the children of the recyclers and use my personal instruments,” Chávez, who worked as an ecological technician at the landfill, told The Telegraph. “But it got to the point that there were too many students and not enough supply. So that’s when I decided to experiment and try to actually create a few.”

This inspirational story will be told in an upcoming feature-length documentary called “Landfill Harmonic”, tentatively due in 2014. According to the filmmakers, the documentary shows “how trash and recycled materials can be transformed into beautiful-sounding musical instruments, but more importantly, it brings witness to the transformation of precious human beings.”
