PEARL JAM Documentary To Premiere At Toronto Film Festival

According to The Pulse Of Radio, PEARL JAM has posted a brand new trailer online (see below) for “Pearl Jam Twenty”, the upcoming documentary from director and longtime band friend Cameron Crowe that chronicles the group’s 20-year history. The arrival of the trailer coincides with the news that the film will make its world premiere at the prestigious 2011 Toronto International Film Festivalon Saturday, September 10. Following the premiere, the movie will begin screening in cities around the country for one night only on September 20, with weeklong runs in selected markets starting on Friday, September 23.

The film documents the band’s early, massive success and bassist Jeff Ament told The Pulse Of Radio how that initial stardom affected them. “I think as hard as it was in terms of our lifestyles and just our everyday life, selling records actually allowed us to kind of make our art kind of how we wanted to make it,” he said. “There were a lot of benefits that came out of getting as big as we did early on. We were stoked to play in front of a couple of hundred people at the local bar, you know, and so to go from that to a couple of years later, ROLLING STONES are asking us to open for them and Neil Young‘s asking us to be his band and all that kind of stuff…it was a trip.”

“Pearl Jam Twenty” will have its television premiere on Friday, October 21 at 9:00 p.m. ET, as part of the PBS “American Masters” series.

It will also be available on demand with a DVD edition of the film to be released worldwide on October 25. A companion book, also called “Pearl Jam Twenty”, will be published on September 13, while a soundtrack album is due out on September 20th.

The documentary has been assembled from more than 1,200 hours of rarely and never-before-seen footage, over 24 hours of recent interviews with the band, as well as live footage of their concert performances.

PEARL JAM is currently at work on its 10th studio album.
