SCOTT WEILAND’s Drummer Quits

According to The Pulse Of Radio, former STONE TEMPLE PILOTS frontman Scott Weiland is extending his “Purple At The Core” to the West Coast, with a new string of dates starting on May 29 in Hollywood. But not all is well in the Weiland camp, as drummer Danny Thompson has quit the singer’s touring band after seven years. Thompson wrote at Facebook, “I have just officially QUIT the Scott Weiland solo band. Loved playing with the guys for seven years but it’s a matter of self-worth. Not going to elaborate.”

The other members of STP issued a statement on February 27 revealing that Weiland had been “terminated.”

He previously parted with the group in 2002, reuniting with them six years later after he was kicked out of VELVET REVOLVER.

The singer’s tour with his solo band THE WILDABOUTS features him playing the first two STP albums.

THE WILDABOUTS‘ lineup includes multi-instrumentalist Doug Grean, bassist Tommy Black and guitarist Jeremy Brown.

Regarding how the concept for the tour came about, Weiland said: “Well, originally, it was an idea I came up with for STP for the anniversary of ‘Core’ to do the ‘Core’ album in its entirety. The rest of the guys didn’t want to do it. So, it was still something that there was a lot of public interest in. Having that said, the idea was brought up to me through management. I talked to the guys in my solo band, THE WILDABOUTS, and they were totally into it, as were the promoters. It worked out.”
