SLIPKNOT Rumored To Have Recruited Former MADBALL And AGAINST ME! Drummer JAY WEINBERG

SLIPKNOT is rumored to have recruited former MADBALL and AGAINST ME! drummer Jay Weinberg to assist them during the sessions for the band’s new studio album following last year’s departure of Joey Jordison.

Weinberg — the 23-year-old son of Max Weinberg (BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN AND THE E STREET BAND) — was most recently a member of AGAINST ME!, having played with the Florida-based act from November 2010 until December 2012.

Weinberg joined AGAINST ME! shortly after he was ousted from MADBALL and following the departure of AGAINST ME!‘s previous sticksman, George Rebelo.

In May 2013, Weinberg filled in for KVELERTAK drummer Kjetil Gjermundrod during the band’s North American tour because Gjermundrod had to bow out of the run after experiencing significant pain in his arm.

SLIPKNOT announced in December 2013 that it had parted ways with Jordison, one of the band’s founding members and key songwriters. The group posted a statement at its web site which read, “It is with great pain but quiet respect that, for personal reasons, Joey Jordison and SLIPKNOT are parting ways. We all wish Joey the best in whatever his future holds. We understand that many of you will want to know how and why this has come to be, and we will do our best to respond to these questions in the near future.”

The statement added, “It is our love for all of you, as well as for the music we create, that spurs us to continue on and move forward with our plans for releasing new material in the next year. We hope that all of you will come to understand this, and we appreciate your continued support while we plan the next phase of the future of SLIPKNOT.”

SLIPKNOT has not disclosed the reasons for Jordison‘s exit, although the drummer issued a statement in January saying that he did not quit the band.

SLIPKNOT‘s forthcoming CD will be the band’s first since the 2010 death of bassist Paul Gray.

MADBALL Guitarist Interviewed By DUTCH DISTORTION (Video)

Dutch Distortion conducted an interview with guitarist Mitts of the legendary New York hardcore band MADBALL on March 14 at Melkweg in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. You can now watch the chat below.

MADBALL‘s latest EP, “Rebellion”, was released digitally last summer via The BNB Label, a brand extension of Cricien‘s Black N Blue Productions group. The six-song effort contains four new tracks and newly recorded versions of two cuts from the band’s legendary 1989 seven-inch single, “Ball Of Destruction”. The CD was recorded at Mana Recording Studios in St. Petersberg, Florida with producer Erik Rutan (HATE ETERNAL, CANNIBAL CORPSE, MORBID ANGEL).

“Rebellion” marked the first MADBALL recording with former UNEARTH and THE RED CHORD member Mike Justian, who has served as MADBALL‘s touring drummer for a couple of years.

MADBALL: Another New Song Available For Streaming

New York hardcore legends MADBALL recently spent five days at the Mana Recording Studios in St. Petersberg, Florida with producer Erik Rutan (HATE ETERNAL, CANNIBAL CORPSE, MORBID ANGEL) recording their new EP, “Rebellion”, to be released later this month via The BNB Label, a brand extension of frontman Freddy Cricien‘s Black N Blue Productions group. The six-song effort contains four new tracks and newly recorded versions of two cuts from the band’s legendary 1989 seven-inch single, “Ball Of Destruction”.

“Rebellion” marks the first MADBALL recording with former UNEARTH and THE RED CHORD member Mike Justian, who has served as MADBALL‘s touring drummer for the past year.

Speaking to AOL‘s Noisecreep, MADBALL vocalist Freddy Cricien stated about the process of re-recording 23-year-old material, “I was 12 when we did that original recording, and I don’t have the best memory when it comes to a lot of things, but I do remember that session.”

He added, “We recorded ‘Ball Of Destruction’ at Don Fury‘s studio on two tracks, live, with no overdubs. You went there, paid him a few hundred dollars and bang everything out. That session had me, Vinnie Stigma (AGNOSTIC FRONT) on guitars, my brother Roger (Miret, AGNOSTIC FRONT) on bass and Will Shepler (ex-AGNOSTIC FRONT) on drums. We also had Craig Setari (SICK OF IT ALL) and Mark Ryan (SUPERTOUCH) on backing vocals. As gritty as the original recording was, it was cool to be able to go in and re-record a couple of the tracks for this new EP.”

According to Cricien, “The Beast” “is about going through the trauma of an anxiety attack. It’s something a lot of us have unfortunately have had to deal with, me included. It’s a different kind of song, lyrically, for MADBALL, but it’s just like anything else we’ve written about… it’s very real.”

An eight-minute video clip featuring behind-the-scenes footage from the “Rebellion” recording sessions can be seen below.

MADBALL released its latest album, “Empire”, in a special red vinyl format on November 22, 2010.

“Empire” sold around 1,500 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 15 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

“Empire” was released on October 12, 2010 via Good Fight Music. The CD was recorded at Mana Recording Studios with Erik Rutan.

AGNOSTIC FRONT, MADBALL Confirmed For CBGB FESTIVAL

Legendary New York hardcore band AGNOSTIC FRONT will play the exact same set from its classic live album, “Live At CBGB”, during its upcoming performance at the CBGB’s Festival. The show will take place on July 5 at the Webster Hall in New York City. Also scheduled to appear is MADBALL, with more acts to be announced.

“We are very excited to be performing on the opening night of the CBGB’s Festival in New York City,” commented AGNOSTIC FRONT vocalist Roger Miret.

“We are wrapping up shows on our 30-year-anniversary tour and we are performing the classic ‘Live At CBGB’ setlist from the 1989 iconic release!

“We have been invited to join this festival for their biggest opening night at the monumental Webster Hall club.

“We are very excited to have landed a great homecoming show in our celebration as a band for 30 years. And to top it all off, we are doing this nostalgic gig with our brothers MADBALL.

“I hear there will be two more exciting bands to be added to this lineup.

“Come on out and share our celebration in this hardcore world and get ready for another ‘Live At CBGB’ performance!”

In conjunction with AGNOSTIC FRONT‘s 30th-anniversary shows in June and July, where they’ll be playing their classic record “Live At CBGB” from start to finish, Bridge Nine Records has announced that the label will be reissuing the album on July 17. Featuring an embossed LP cover with the original “Live At CBGB” artwork, the effort will be made available on super-limited-edition red-white-and-blue-striped vinyl with multiple other colorways available.

Commented Roger Miret said, “With this year being our 30-year anniversary as a band with myself singing, I wanted to play a special show here and there so I came up with the idea of playing our classic ‘Live At CBGB’ set. This was the set front to back from our legendary live recording released in 1989. That was a magical time for the band and hardcore was thriving at its best in 1988 when it was recorded.

“As an honorable family member with the Bridge Nine crew, I knew that the label should be home to this special re-release as much as CBGB was home to AGNOSTIC FRONT.

“We are making this re-release very special for the record collector in a red-white-and-blue color and our timeless original cover embossed to add that punch it held back in 1989 as intense today in 2012! Along with this special re-release, we are doing a handful of special shows in the U.S. to coordinate with the release. This will be a great release team effort with AGNOSTIC FRONT and Bridge Nine… here it is — the glory days of 1988 New York City hardcore as relevant today, tomorrow and forever!”

Originally released in 1989, “Live At CBGB” contains 19 of AGNOSTIC FRONT‘s most notorious tracks. Allmusic said, “Recorded in the flesh at New York’s punk rock Mecca CBGB in August of 1988, ‘Live At CBGB’ captures the band in all its ferocious glory. As Miret announces, ‘This is the title track from our first album, ‘Victim In Pain’, the song’s also called ‘Victim In Pain’,’ the band is off. ‘Pain’ is quickly followed by ‘Public Assistance’ and later a song that calls for unity between punks and skins, ‘United Blood’. The recording is highlighted by the band’s hardcore anthem, ‘Crucified’. Beneath all the band’s political lambasting and calls for unity (although many of their shows were anything but), there’s a good musical lesson to be learned from all of this. Because, if you’ve ever been just the slightly bit curious about what NYHC is all about, this release is a solid launching point.”

“Live At CBGB” track listing

Not only is “Reborn In Defiance” BIOHAZARD‘s first original lineup album in 18 years, but it also marks the last album recorded by the band before the departure of bassist and co-vocalist Evan Seinfeld. The effort remains a testament to the four founding members (Billy Graziadei, Bobby Hambel, Evan Seinfeld and Danny Schuler) and their unique chemistry.

Having last recorded and toured as the fundamental lineup with the release of “State Of The World Address” back in 1994, BIOHAZARD reformed with all four original members back in 2008 to commemorate the band’s 20th anniversary. They went back out on the road together over the next two years, during which time inspiration struck.

The legendary Toby Wright (ALICE IN CHAINS, METALLICA, SEVENDUST, KORN) was brought in to produce the 13-track “Reborn In Defiance”, which was recorded in Los Angeles.

Two songs from the CD — “Come Alive” and “Vengeance Is Mine” — are available for streaming on the band’s Facebook page (“like” required).

BIOHAZARD has sold over five million albums worldwide since its formation in the late Eighties in Brooklyn, New York. They achieved international success with their albums “Urban Discipline” on Roadrunner Records in 1992 and 1994′s “State of the World Address” on Warner Brothers. Over the years, BIOHAZARD has collaborated with ONYX, CYPRESS HILL, AGNOSTIC FRONT, HATEBREED, PANTERA, and TYPE O NEGATIVE, among others. The band has continued to tour nationally and internationally, sharing stages with HOUSE OF PAIN, OZZY OSBOURNE, SLAYER, DANZIG, FEAR FACTORY, SEPULTURA and AGNOSTIC FRONT.
