Austin, texas-based guitarist Tony “Offender” Johnson — best known for his work with THE OFFENDERS — passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 12 at the age of 54 after a 20-month struggle with lung cancer. He is survived by daughter Natalie Johnson and son Alex Johnson.
THE OFFENDERS were an influential Texas hardcore band in the 1980s. Tony married Jimi Hendrix-style flash with the high-speed hardcore to create a sound matched by no other. Tony also recently played with the Austin punk band ROGER’S PORN COLLECTION along with THE OFFENDERS drummer Pat Doyle.
THE OFFENDERS bassist Mikey Donaldson died in 2007.
