This past Friday (May 3) was declared Metallica Night at ATT Park in San Francisco, home of baseball’s San Francisco Giants. Members of METALLICA participated in pre-game festivities which included drummer Lars Ulrich throwing out the ceremonial first pitch and guitarists James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett performing the National Anthem. The custom Giants-themed guitars that were played by the pair were signed immediately following the National Anthem and auctioned off at the Giants Community Clubhouse, with proceeds being shared by the Giants Community Fund and the Bill Graham Memorial Foundation.
Video footage of Ulrich throwing out the ceremonial first pitch to Giants closer Sergio Romo can be seen below,
In honor of Metallica Night, San Francisco Giants pitcher Barry Zito came by the band’s headquarters in San Rafael, California to jam with the band.
Following recent live dates in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates, METALLICA performed on Thursday night (May 2) at the Revolver Golden Gods Awards in Los Angeles, where the group was also honored as “Golden Gods.”
The band is also gearing up to headline its second annual Orion Music + More festival, scheduled for June 8-9 in Detroit.
